Test Case 1: Building Envelope Choices
I was not able to achieve the predicted mean EUI based on just building envelope choices alone. In order to get this number, my recommended settings include:
- Rotating 90 degrees
- 0% Southern WWR
- 2/3 Southern Window Shades
- Southern Double paned glass
- 0% Northern WWR
- 2/3 Northern Window Shades
- Northern Double paned glass
- 0% Western WWR
- 2/3 Western Window Shades
- Western double paned glass
- 0% Eastern WWR
- 2/3 Eastern Window Shades
- Eastern double paned glass
- Wall Construction - R38 wood
- Roof Construction - R60
- Infiltration - 0.17 ACH
Test Case 2: Building Envelope & Power + Lighting Choices
This puts us below the 54 kBTU/ft2/yr. My recommended settings include:
- Same as above
- Lighting Efficiency - 0.3 W/SF
- Adding occupancy controls
- Plug load efficiency - 0.6 W/SF
- HVAC - ASHRAE package terminal heat pump
- Operating schedule: 12/5
Test Case 3: Building Envelope, Power & Lighting Choices, & PV Panels
And now we are finally in the green! My recommended settings include:
- All of the above
- 20.4% panel efficiency
- 30 year payback limit
- 90% surface coverage
Overall, I would really play around with HVAC, PV, and lighting/power so that I can enhance the building envelope because I feel that those did very small in comparison to effecting the EUI.
