Some analogies that I can think of between the biological systems and the systems in buildings are as follows:
- Some buildings seem to have lives of their own, and they can parametrically react and adapt to environmental changes like plants in nature (such as sunflowers). For example, the Al Bahar Towers in Abu Dhabi has a shading system that can detect sunlight intensity and direction and adjust façade openings to reduce temperature change and ensure the comfort of people inside the building.
- Nature can also inspire building design. Many modern buildings are designed to blend in with nature like chameleons.
- The façade and exterior walls of the building are similar to the skin of animals that protect and allow the bones, muscles (critical structures) and inner organs (building facilities and equipment) to stay intact. The windows, doors, or other types of openings on the exterior walls are like pores on the skin that allow the buildings to breathe and absorb sunlight.
