One challenge I encountered was finding the right angle in 3-D view to place the pipes, because at certain angles I created formations that looked straight but were actually at very steep angles. It also took me some fiddling to realize the pipes had to be capped at the end before I could use the automatic connection tool, otherwise I would get an error message.
