My HVAC strategy was very similar to the practice exercise in keeping it relatively simple and meeting the needs of the buildings/rooms colling and heating loads. My building holds numerous large glass windows, and while that allowed for very sufficient heating, it also meant a large cooling load to keep the room temperature stable. To help minimize this, I decided to use triple glazing low-e windows for my facade to help redirect some of the extra and unneeded sunlight. As you can imagine, due to the windows I did not have a large heating load, so the cooling load was really my main concern. The change in windows as well as other key material changes to the exterior walls, slabs and more (to increase the R-Value of each) helped cut my cooling load down by nearly 50% from the original design. Other than the issue of cooling, I didn’t encounter many other issues involved in the HVAC system.
