Design Journal Entry - Module 10

Challenges:

• greater vertical length to pump fluid → how to reduce this energy loss through design
• sinks and toilets on opposite sides
• adding foot wash stations (levels 2-4)
• greywater system

Things I would include:

• gravity toilets (kinda already have)
• digestion/composting tanks in the basement underneath toilets
• greywater treatment on-site
• irrigation w grey water

Floor 1 Overview:

• gender neutral restrooms are located in same place in core on each level
• modularity aids in design/construction

Challenges:

• wanted to have a single wall for all fixtures, would probably go back and change this
• getting from the mechanical room to the restroom, wasn't able to model but hopefully wouldn’t be too challenging

Strategy/Elements:

• toilet side: grey water supply, sanitary lines taken to basement/floor 1
• sink side: hot and cold water lines (preferably from recycled water if included), grey water collection
• copy first floor elements to other floors and extend central pipes
