Key / Essential / Unique Design Features

Green Roof

The green roof terrace is a key feature of the exhibition center, merging beauty with eco-friendliness right in the heart of New York City. It's not just a garden on a roof; it's a statement of sustainability, offering cleaner air and a home for city wildlife. This space provides a peaceful spot for people to enjoy, surrounded by plants and flowers, with a fantastic view of the skyline. It shows the center's commitment to the environment in a practical, visible way, making it a special part of the city's landscape.

Wood Slats

Another standout feature of the exhibition center is the use of wood slats over concrete wall cladding on three of its exterior walls. This design choice not only adds warmth and natural beauty to the building's appearance but also enhances its aesthetic appeal. The contrast between the organic texture of the wood and the solidity of the concrete creates a visually striking facade that draws the eye and invites interest.

Big Success

I'm particularly pleased with how the mechanical aspects of the building turned out, which I initially thought would be challenging. This component of the design not only functions seamlessly but also integrates elegantly with the building's overall aesthetic and sustainability goals.

Big Challenge

One of the biggest challenges I expected was the structural engineering part because I didn't have much experience with it. I thought it would be really tough. However, it turned out to be more manageable than I feared. Looking back, I'd tell myself to not worry so much and maybe learn more about it beforehand or ask for help right from the start. This way, I could have faced the challenge with more confidence and less stress

Lessons Learned

For students embarking on similar projects, my first piece of advice is to start early and pace yourself. Trying to do everything in a single day is overwhelming, but it's completely manageable if you tackle it bit by bit. I hadn't taken CEE220A and had no experience with Revit, which was intimidating at first. However, with time and steady effort, I not only overcame these challenges but also came to be proud of my work. I'm immensely grateful for the support and guidance from friends and Professor Glenn. Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it, don't forget to use ctrl+z and saving your work!! Good luck
