Dylan Olson

Hey All, my name is Dylan Olson, a fourth year undergraduate in Civil Engineering with a depth in Structures. I have experience in residential construction and have been on a handful of small projects at various stages of construction. I also have some pretty surface level experience with various BIM software, including Revit. My fascination with BIM is the intersection of these interdisciplinary design aspects. I am attracted to the depth of detail that can be contained with a model and the ability to create a coherent representation of a structure that does not exist yet. Of course this ability does not guarantee a model be coherent or even necessarily good, coming from the construction side I can attest that some fine details and some not so fine details are often lost from concept to construction. These reasons vary but with proper understanding and utilization of BIM we can ensure less of these details are lost in translation and through BIM collaborative capabilities, ensure a higher quality of care for the design and construction process. Through this class I hope to build my ability to identify various building systems in a BIM and my own confidence in creating models myself.
