Please add to our community thinking by posting a few inspirational analogies of your own between the systems that you typically find in biological organisms and similar systems that we often (or should) find in buildings.

Think creatively about all the systems and features that allow creatures to survive, thrive, and adapt to their environments!

First, from the introduction video, we saw comparisons between the need for air, circulation, skin/envelope, organs, and feet/secure base.

Other ones I can think of are:

  • Waste disposal: All organisms produce waste that needs to be expelled from inside, and it is the same with a building that has people in it, whether that is from bathrooms or trashcans. There needs to be some system in place to get rid of that.
  • Security, keeping out threats: In our bodies, threats of disease are warded off by white blood cells, and I guess that this could be interpreted literally in terms of kind of security guards, but in an architectural sense, it can be seen through keycard entry doors, reinforced glass, camera systems, etc.
