Journal Entry For
Module 9 - HVAC Systems

Your Design Journal entries for this module should highlight your design thinking and analysis results that influenced your decisions about:

  • your overall HVAC system strategy
  • your heating strategy and how you implemented it in your design
  • your cooling strategy and how you implemented it
  • any special HVAC system challenges that you encountered

My site is located in Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve and according to climate consultant my site is in Zone-3 which requires more heating than cooling. So to provide the heating it can be done by insulating walls .providing window shading , insulated roofing , passive solar gain. I have provided lots of window shading in my model and high insulated material in my model. And for little cooling ,natural ventilation can be done through windows.

In heating and cooling loads I adjusted my window and walls to high R- valued to keep the building warm and change the value of slab and roof which matches the thermal mass in my architecture model.

For HVAC systems , I decided to go with the Air Transport System . I have placed 2 Air Handlers on each floor in the mechanical room and further connects the ducts to the Air Terminals.
