Journal Entry For
Module 4 - Conceptual Design - Building Context & Passive Design

For my site location, I decided to go with a spot quite close to my heart and family origin. This spot is in Ruhnu, a small island off the coast of Estonia. This site lies on a small piece of undeveloped land, but it seems to be clear of any trees and large obstacles making it easier to work with. There are a ton of view opportunities and the island itself is beautiful and barely inhabited, which I think drives its appeal. There are hardly any neighbors, so my focus will be on my building's interactions with the environment. Simplicity is my friend here, and so I decided to go with a basic L-shaped building to fit into my site.

This project will match my goals very well, in that my success with this building relies on my three goals created. Efficiently using materials to create a sustainable building will be very useful on a remote island. The environment in which I construct my building in will need to be matched by my style of design. Lastly, with this being my favorite place on Earth that I've been to, there is a lot that can be done to make this building quite pleasant and enjoyable to design but also to view.
