Module 3 - Project Goals Targets & Strategies
General idea of space:
Exhibition space located at Jasper Ridge that's focused on promoting sustainable construction practices. Building has a certain certification for energy efficiency and sustainability and will blend in with the environment and promote a healthy appreciation for nature.
Design Goal 1: Maximize user comfort and encourages healthy behaviours
Measure:
- Measure of natural light
- Feedback of visitors
- Walkability measure?
Target:
- 75% building has to be able to be naturally lit all year
- Minimize elevators and cramped spaces
Strategies:
- Large open slightly spiral staircases to encourage walking in open space
- Lots of windows to let in light
- Interaction with greenery both inside and outside of the building
Design Goal 2: Minimizes energy use and be sustainable in its operation
Measure:
- Energy Use Intensity in wattage / time / area
Target:
- Net 0 site energy and can be self sustaining in that department
Strategies:
- Ensure building orientation / design allows for maximum daylight to get in and heat up the building in colder temperatures while making sure it doesn't overheat when it's hot
- High HVAC efficiency to ensure
- Solar power
- Insulation technologies
- Sensors to minimize lighting as it is the largest source of energy use in commercial buildings
Design Goal 3: Uses sustainable materials and blends into environment.
Measure:
- LEED certification
- Amount of recycled material
- Visual assessment
Target:
- LEED Gold certification
- Blends into the environment
- 25% recycled materials
Strategies:
- Use of natural materials
- CLT or FSC certified sources for wood
- Design to fit the environment
