Module 8 - Structural Framing Systems
I chose to implement a steel structural system for my exhibition space. It is located in eastern Washington state, an area notorious for inclement weather; thus, I thought a steel framing system might better withstand strong winds and heavy snowfalls. I intend to keep the larger structural beam systems as steel, though I may change the smaller beam systems to wood as this is a cheaper option and can be locally sourced. I tried to include the structural columns at the edges of the central atrium area on the ground floor to allow an open concept space in the atrium area. My design includes a non-structural curtain wall along the west side of the building, so it was important that I include strong framing and columns in this area.
