  1. Bollards or curbs outside a building (protective design) are like nails or a protruding spine that adds physical barriers to the more vulnerable skin or building surface.
  2. Elevators and stairs serve as channels for transportation of people, furniture, and other equipment. Could be seen as the throat of the building, especially considering people as bringing in energy and work.
