After my frustration with my own model, in this exercise I chose to make a very regular system of grids and place my structure accordingly. I chose to work with steel to try out a different material and because I thought it worked well with the style of the building. My main issues were with the things I hadn't had to deal with on my own model like shafts and stairs on multiple floor. One of my beams accidentally crossed one of those openings however not in a way that would make it useless but rather just being visible (at the back of picture). Here's a bit of how it turned out:
