Insight: Daylighting Analysis

  • I completed an initial daylighting analysis before adding more windows. I completed the analysis after adding the main glazing locations,
  • Based on the results I will adjust where I place windows moving forward
  • Some windows have been placed, and I will continue to re-do Daylighting Analyses moving forward

Exterior Walls:

  • I created a thick, wood exterior wall with a very high R-value and thermal mass.
  • In addition, I created a new family for a curtain wall, to create the aesthetic I was going for with wood slatting. This slatting is paired wherever there is a solid wall to create a beautiful textured effect.

Glazing:

  • The location of glazing was oriented to optimize views, with most occurring on the south side of the building and some on the North as well.
    • Transparencies of view from South to North provides great views of the ocean.
    • Views were created onto the green roof decks to encourage use of the interactive exhibits and increase connection to the outdoors.
  • Window panels are double glazed and Low-e to optimize thermal controlGreen Roof

Green Roof

  • I created a green roof for the two rooftop decks. The structure used is outlined below

Insight: Energy Analysis

  • My building is currently at an EUI of 24.6, without the inclusion of any solar panels
  • Adjustments:
    • Operating schedule: 12/5
    • HVAC system: ASHRAE Package Terminal Heat Pump
    • Plug Load efficiency: 1.0W/sf - .6W/sf
    • Lighting efficiency: .3W/sf
    • Wall Construction: R 38 wood (in reality, the model contains wood with an R value of 151.5, likely greatly reducing actual EUI)
    • WWR ratio adjusted to correspond to model

Insight: Solar Analysis

  • Solar potential is explained below
  • When analyzed further in Insight, the PV potential is too low to consider incorporating PV in the model
    • I would like to look into this in the coming weeks, as the two analysis contradicted each other slightly (In revit, 17.1 yr payback, on Insight it states exceeds max packback time)
