Design #1

First, I started by trying to figure out what I wanted to do. These are the three options I came up with. I settled on The Life Building. I decided to simplify the design using triangles.

After I figured out the design I wanted to focus on I identified my controlling geometry. Then I created an outline of what I wanted it to look like.

Since I knew I needed to do a sine wave early (for 3 units), that was the next step I did. I did not want to go back and try to add it in afterwards.

Once I figured out how to make the sine curve I was trying to figure out how to make “ribs” for the design, with lines. These “ribs” would be where the tubes would follow, so I wanted to see that before I inserted the adaptive component. To do this, since I had a “top point” I had to use list.cycle to pair all my points along the x&y-axes with the top-point. This allowed me to create the ribs and see where the tubes would go.

The adaptive panels are where I struggled!

I was able to create a surface, but the quad fct was not creating the points I needed. I tried a bunch of different methods and was never able to figure out how to get the panels to line-up along the “surface” I created. As you can see in the photos, they were not connecting in square/rectangle panels. After many videos, forums, and questions, I still could not figure it out!

Because I could not figure it out, I went on to Design #2!

Design #2

Since I could not figure out the panels within Design #1 I moved onto Design #2. I used the example Glenn went over in the kick-off to start this design. Coincidentally, this is similar to a design my group came up with for a bus stop in another class, that is why it was on my brainstorming section above!

I went through the same steps I went through in Design #1, except for this model! Once I got the panels to work I created a design using the width of the frames themselves!

I decided to place a sine wave at the top to create a wave-like look to it!
