Cheryl Mulor- Module 5

Part 1

  • One of the provided building forms - Twisting rounded triangular mass

Steps for Part 1

  • I imported the twisting rounded rectanguar mass into revit
  • I added ~75 levels in order to make sure that future adjustments to the top height would not require manual addition of mass floors. I then added the mass floors that would be used to calculate the gross floor area
  • I set the Project Location to San Francisco
  • I set up constraints for some parameters that would remain constant and then used formulas to set up relationships between parameters that should be maintained and those that should chnage based on chnages of other parameter values

  • Below is the dynamo logic for this part. I used most of the custom nodes in the CEE 220C folder for simplicity and edited them as needed
  • image
  • I then generated results for requested metrics when the top height parameter input is varied. I exported the results to CSV and copy pasted on excel to create the results table
image
  • The top height parameter in this case was the main parameter that could be used to fle the building to achieve various gross floor area, surface areas and gross volumes. The mid height as shifted as the top height shifted given the formula

Part 2

Your new, original building form - Based on the twisting tower template with 3 profiles

Steps for Part 2

  • I imported the twisting tower template into revit and used the chevron building profile arc family to create my twisting building form
  • I added ~75 levels like in part one in order to make sure that future adjustments to the top height would not require manual addition of mass floors. I then added the mass floors that would be used to calculate the gross floor area
  • I once again set the Project Location to San Francisco
  • Like in part 1, I set up constraints for some parameters that would remain constant and then used formulas to set up relationships between parameters that should be maintained and those that should chnage based on chnages of other parameter values

  • Below is the dynamo logic for this part. I used provided custom nodes in the CEE 220C and edited them as needed

  • Finally, I generated results for requested metrics when the top height parameter and the base rotation inputs are varied. I exported the results to CSV and copy pasted on excel to create the results table.

  • The top height parameter and the base rotation in this case are the main parameters that could be used to flex the buiding in order to achieve various gross floor area, surface areas and gross volumes. The mid height as shifted as the top height shifted given the formula
