Nicholas Grant

Hi everyone! I am a 1st year M.S. student in the Structural Engineering program. I am from Colorado and went to CU-Boulder for my undergrad. At CU, I majored in Architectural Engineering and minored in Engineering Management. Outside of class, I enjoy lots of outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, and playing soccer.

I have structural engineering industry experience from an internship at Apex Engineers in Denver, CO. I worked on commercial and residential projects ranging from smaller renovations to large-scale new constructions. I also have research experience from CU-Boulder with the Living Materials Laboratory, where I focused on embodied carbon.

I am interested in how optimization and parametric design can positively impact the structural engineering field and the AEC industry as a whole. I want to take this course to explore the use of Revit/Dynamo and Rhino/Grasshopper to perform generative design and improve structural engineering workflows. One of my goals for the course is to gain experience with these modeling platforms and their associated scripting languages/environments. Beyond that, I want to develop a conceptual understanding of optimization that will be relevant to many different career fields in the future.
