Hi everyone! I’m Simi and I’m a 2nd year MS and 1st year PhD student in SDC. I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and I did my undergrad in Civil Engineering on the east coast at the Johns Hopkins University. I study construction innovation in African contexts, and I’m really interested in (1) incorporating thick-walled Adobe architecture and construction into industrialized construction practices, using semi-skilled labor and (2) developing computational models to predict labor intensive construction outcomes. Hoping to learn about everyone’s background in class, and maybe grab a coffee here and there.

I’m very interested in how we can productize our built environment to create high-performing buildings that meet the needs of real communities today, and in the future. Broad areas of interest are IPD, Industrialized Construction, and Engineering for Sustainable Development.

Outside of classes, I love to read and to write! I read lots of African fiction, creative non-fiction, and (more and more these days), lots of theology. I love all types of art from drawing to singing, concept make-up, etc. I see myself happiest when art meets engineering; I find that arts inspire my heart to create a world where everyone can be safe and dignified within their cultural context, and engineering for sustainable development principles allow me to do this in an immediately tangible way. Excited for a great class!
