I got the inspiration of the wavy pattern from the Coupa Cafe near Green Library. This canopy is designed for bus stop, where rain will flow down from the curved surface and not cumulate as load on it. I started by creating 3 curves using the “arc” demand in Rhino Grasshopper, then merge them and connect to the “loft” function to create surface. I used the “GridBraced2D” function from lunchbox to panelize the surface and I attached the pipe section to the ribs of my structure. The first curve has a negative curvature and tilting to the left, the second curve has a positive curvature, and the third curve has a negative curvature. All three curves can be parametrically adjusted in terms of length, width, height, and curvature. The number of panels and cross sectional area of the ribs can also be adjusted.
