Instant Structure

Inspiration

This tool was inspired by ALICE, a construction scheduling generative AI software. Although it was very effective at producing various schedules, it was ultimately reliant on having an original Revit model to insert into the software.

Purpose

Given that most building models have a fixed internal structure, this tool helps to generate internal columns and beams with minimal effort. Users can set the parameters of both a podium and a tower. The podium is automatically set to be made of concrete, while users can choose either wood or metal for the tower. Users can input various parameters for both the podium and the tower. Some of these parameters are shown below:

If users do not want a podium (i.e. only a steel/wood rectangular structure), they should set 1a. - 1e. to 0, and remember to set ‘1. PODIUM Wanted?’ to FALSE.

If users do not want a tower (i.e. only a concrete podium), they should set 2a. - 2e. to 0.

When there is both a podium and tower, 2a. (Tower Offset) is the most important variable, as it determines the offset between the podium and the tower. 2b. and 2c. are not used, as they will be calculated by offsetting from the podium.

2n. allows the user to choose between wood (T) and steel (F) materials for the tower structural columns and framing.

When trying to generate a new structure, users should make sure to delete the previous structure in Revit before running the program again.

In terms of outputs, users will (a) get a structural frame that they can further edit or plug into other software and (b) embodied carbon emissions estimates based on the amount of material used in the structure.
