1. Overview

2. Context & Reference

a. Right Capacity

At this stage, we could have an estimation or range of the number of students, which is our fixed input for a range of solutions. We need to design a building able to meet the demand, no matter if it is 1 floor or 2 floors, but with the capacity.

b. Design Criteria Compliance

To achieve High Performing Schools, I will present just one of the main considerations, which is the scope of the Facilities and the level of Flexibility. The purpose is to assure that we provide all the needed facilities that will help the students develop their creativity, innovation, and study skills in an active-learning environment.

These spaces have Area Requirements as follows: SF/Student, a high SF/Student ratio belongs to a Higher Performing Schools because it is related to a higher level of flexibility and collaboration for the students.

In this sense, we can understand that the Design criteria of each room + the Students Demand, will give us the Needed Area, we don’t start with an assumed area, but we calculate the needed area.

*These are some of the SF/Student criteria found, and some of them are assumed to be part of this example:

c. Feasible Cost

This is usually one of the first indicators that we need to consider from the beginning of any design, as a design driver, instead of spending effort on a non-feasible solution!
