Hi!!! 😊 I am Lavinia, first year PhD student in Martin Fischer’s CIFE Lab. I am 26 years old, and I come from Italy. I have lived in four different countries so far (Italy, Finland, Switzerland, and USA) and I love travelling. My main hobbies are drawing, hiking, and (synchronized) swimming. I also love nature so much that I can spend hours just staring at flowers and trees to admire their beauty.
This is a picture of me in a tropical jungle in Hawaai. 🦜
Now back to more relevant topics:
- Educational background: I have completed my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering in University of Trento (Italy) and Aalto University (Finland). I have a Master’s Degree in Robotics, Systems and Control from ETH Zurich. Now pursuing a PhD at Stanford University in Civil and Environmental Engineering.
- Industry experience: I have worked at Hilti A.G. in Liechtenstein for two years as a machine learning researcher. Hilti is an amazing company that you should definitely get to know if you are interested in sustainable construction!
- Why I am interested in this course: I have attended and completed 220A and 220B during the past two quarters. I aim to continue and finish the CEE 220 series! I have loved the previous courses and considering that I am very passionate about coding, I believe that this course will be very interesting (and fun) for me! Additionally, this course fits perfectly for my PhD research goal: automating MEP design workflows!
- My goal for the course: I want to to learn how to create add-ins and custom model extensions using application programming interfaces (APIs) to enhance the functionality of parametric modeling platforms and scripting environments in architectural design. I want to learn to use parametric modeling platforms (Revit/FormIt, Rhino, Digital Project) and their programming languages (I already know python but not Dynamo, Grasshopper, or DesignScript).
