Flex Your Form - STAGE 1
PART 1
- A brief description of your design outlining the parameters that can be used to flex and dynamically change your building form
The proposed design explores a parametric twisted pyramid form tailored for a site in Dubai, symbolizing innovation and future-forward architecture. The form is driven by key input parameters: base width, base depth, top height, and top rotation. These parameters allow the building mass to flex dynamically within site constraints (300m x 100m footprint, 230m max height), enabling rapid generation and evaluation of multiple form alternatives. The approach ensures compliance with target floor areas (2.5M–3M SF), while optimizing for solar insolation, minimal envelope surface area, and construction cost efficiency. This adaptive framework supports iterative testing aligned with the developer’s performance and economic goals..
PART 2
- A brief description of your design outlining the parameters that can be used to flex and dynamically change your building form
The second design is a custom conceptual mass form inspired by the iconic Burj Al Arab (But in straight lines ), oriented to offer direct views toward the Burj Khalifa—enhancing visual experience and site value. The form was developed in Revit using a parametric mass family, with adjustable input parameters: base width, base depth, total height, and roof slope. These allow dynamic control of form variations within site constraints. Using the same Dynamo logic from Part 1, I flexed the design across multiple configurations and verified that the floor area outputs remained within the target range, supporting both aesthetic inspiration and functional efficiency.
Point to Ponder: What’s the advantage of exporting the values to Excel?
Exporting values to Excel offers a clear advantage by allowing easy comparison, analysis, and visualization of multiple design alternatives. It enables quick identification of trends and trade-offs between parameters such as floor area, surface area, and cost. Additionally, Excel facilitates data filtering, graphing, and sharing across teams, making it a powerful tool for informed decision-making throughout the design process.
