Brief Analysis of the Product

  • Plastic toothbrushes (i.e. Oral B that come in packs of 8) are produced to be expendable, made with bristles, rubber, and plastic
  • Both types of toothbrushes are commonly bought at Costco or pharmacies
  • Used typically first thing in the morning after breakfast, and again, after dinner.
  • Encourages hygiene, but may discourage sustainability

Key Features that Promote Sustainability

  • Studies show that electric toothbrushes tend to clean better than normal plastic toothbrushes
  • Normal plastic toothbrushes wear down faster than electric toothbrushes, which can be recharged rather than disposed after a month of use

Features that Reduce Sustainability

  • Rechargeable batteries within electric toothbrushes often get discarded into landfills with toxics
  • Dentists tend to not recommend patients electric toothbrushes because of lazing and less efficient brushing, leading to more cavities
