Brief Analysis of the Product
- Plastic toothbrushes (i.e. Oral B that come in packs of 8) are produced to be expendable, made with bristles, rubber, and plastic
- Both types of toothbrushes are commonly bought at Costco or pharmacies
- Used typically first thing in the morning after breakfast, and again, after dinner.
- Encourages hygiene, but may discourage sustainability
Key Features that Promote Sustainability
- Studies show that electric toothbrushes tend to clean better than normal plastic toothbrushes
- Normal plastic toothbrushes wear down faster than electric toothbrushes, which can be recharged rather than disposed after a month of use
Features that Reduce Sustainability
- Rechargeable batteries within electric toothbrushes often get discarded into landfills with toxics
- Dentists tend to not recommend patients electric toothbrushes because of lazing and less efficient brushing, leading to more cavities
