When thinking about sustainability, I immediately think about my kids and how the future will look for them and for my grandchildren. Coming from a finance background, I try to see the changes and challenges we meet through numbers which is horrifying.
I started a company a couple of years back, focusing on installing solar panels on houses and smart home solutions. One of the main challenges that are evident for the UK population is the cost of implementation. While solar panels result in fewer costs for a household in the long run, the cost to actually buy the technology is out of reach for most people that do not have a higher income. The technology for building sustainable households is there, however it is not achievable for most consumers.
First of it takes up to 10 years before the investment starts to pay of and few households becomes complete self-sufficient. Additionally, solar batteries are expensive and need further development to become more efficient to store energy.
