Key Findings from the Interview
- My mom envisions that all buildings can support society by creating bonds in local community and connect people
- Achieve harmony of building and nature. My mom said her favorite buildings in nature are those that aren't dramatic or superficial. She likes muted buildings that looks natural in their environments.
- My mom believes one disadvantage of wood houses that are common in the U.S. is that they are less resilient and more easily damaged than cement houses. For example, the roof of our house is flat. During rain season in Seattle, the water permeated our roof and it takes so much effort and money to get it repaired. Whereas our apartment in Shanghai (which is located on the 20 something floor) can withstand hurricanes and not have any water seep through.
