The domain that I’d like to focus on is….
I am interested in urban greening as a solution for sustainable development for urban areas. Since it is usually quite difficult to change the existing city planning structure, I would like to focus on methods that would save space and do not alter the current structure of the neighborhoods (such as vertical gardening, green roofs, or transforming existing shopping streets into efficient green gardens). In megacities such as Beijing and Tokyo, relatively large green areas (city parks) are scattered in the city, but there are seldom green areas in between these larger parks. Therefore, it would be interesting to design green paths, perhaps through transforming existing neighborhoods or shopping streets into gardens, that connects those larger urban green areas to form a network of urban greenery.
This area is important/interesting to me because….
Urban areas are major source of environmental pollution and they suffer from the impacts of pollution as well. However, the impacts of pollution can be adapted, combated and mitigated through urban greening which can increase sink of carbon through assimilation, fixation, storage and sequestration on one hand and at the same time move towards sustainable development and eco-environmental sustainability.
