Composite Character 1

  • Name: Mayuka Kitada
  • Age: 19
  • Undergraduate Student Majoring in Medicine
  • Lives in Westchester, NY and Tokyo, Japan
  • Puts sustainability first and includes being eco-friendly as part of her lifestyle, is aware of the impact on the environment
  • Feels entitled to recycle in subcategories as part of the nature of her living environment
  • Sorts her garbage in specific categories on a weekly basis
  • Primary transportation method consists of driving a diesel vehicle and walking

Composite Character 2

  • Name: Sean Yepez
  • Age: 35
  • Works full time, commuter by foot and occasionally by car
  • Lives in Half Moon Bay and on Stanford campus
  • Is aware of carbon-diminishing options in transportation, drives an electric vehicle and works as product developer in an EV company
  • Tries to apply eco-friendly solutions in every part of his lifestyle, from diet to installing renewable energy solutions in his residence
  • Though he uses electricity from the solar panel on his roof to supply all outlets at his home, including to charge his EV car, the system is unable to support heat pumping. Sean is maximizing areas in his residence to be covered by renewable energy, and is aware that the parts could be improved in sustainability terms.

  • Commits to sustainable habits - only uses biodegradable straws, recycles on weekly basis, switch off light and water taps upon finish of use
  • Limitation of renewable energy use in residential building due to low commitment to sustainability of her residential region

  • Undergraduate Student Majoring in Environmental Science
  • Lives in college dorm in Tokyo, Japan
  • Uses public transportation on a daily basis, sticks to carpool and never drives; doesn’t smoke
  • Always brings eco-bag with her whenever going out to avoid use of plastic bags
  • Is aware of the limitations of greens in her residential environment, and commits to recycling in detailed categories on a daily basis
