Design Project 2 | Sustainability, Feasibility, and Human Centric Analysis

Journal Entry For
Sustainability Analysis

We are creating environmental, community, and material sustainability. We are able to reduce carbon emissions by building the SkyGrove Oasis to circumvent the need for HVAC all year round. We are also adding solar power to decrease maintenance costs along with the decrease in the use of HVAC within the building itself, meaning we are using the building features to our advantage and adding renewable sources for a double positive impact on the environment. Through SkyGrove Oasis, we are embracing community bonding to increase human-to-human interaction. Lastly, we are sourcing all materials used in the construction of SkyGrove Oasis locally so that transportation from other countries is unnecessary.

SkyGrove Oasis encourages passive sustainable practices from people by encouraging them to use easily accessible rooftop spaces that would otherwise go to waste. People do not have to transport themselves to recreational areas because they can simply find all that on their building’s rooftop. Additionally, the design is very human-centric since it requires little to no effort from humans, but it provides them with tranquility, peace, and choice-based interaction that was necessary based on the interviews and testing we did.

Overall, we are able to promote sustainability within the construction, human behavior, and long-term maintenance of SkyGrove Oasis!
