Point of View Statement
Fred needs to find a place to belong, where he can get community support in his parenting journey, because he is an inexperienced and struggling parent. Fred always relied on others to cook, buy groceries and manage family outings. His children rely on him, so he wants to find a place where his family can bond, while also being able to talk to those experienced with cooking and taking care of children.
Minimum Viable Product
We will make a community based sustainable garden that focuses on the needs of a whole family and their enjoyment.
The simplest version of this product that delivers value and meets the challenges of this POV statement will have these essential features:
- Community garden: includes berry picking, beekeeping, worm faming
- Elevated beds separated for each suburb - gardeners can choose which produce they wish to grow in those beds (berries, kale, lettuce, cherry tomatoes etc.)
- Solar power center, compost center and rainwater harvesting system:
- Amplifies sustainability aspects of community garden, ensuring its long term efficiency and longevity whilst minimizing harm to environment and lowering costs required for maintenance
- Hydroponics
- The entire indoor garden would be set up using a hydroponic growing system
- Kids and teen workshops will teach Fred’s kids about sustainability with fun activities
- Incentivizes kids to reduce their electronics usage and improve their knowledge of sustainable and nature-based initiatives
- Adult workshops which includes cooking classes so Fred can take care of his children properly
- Taught by volunteers with a fondness for cooking and teaching
- Allows novice cooks to learn more about how to cook healthy meals from garden produce (i.e Mediterranean salads, how to make kimchi)
- Financials
- Investments would be made by the local government that the community garden operates in
- We would also look to banks or large corporations to sponsor the community garden, as we have seen in different cases such as EnviroHouse
