Goal 1: Carbon Sequestration

  • Measure:  Kg of C02 (values found by multiplying average spruce CO2 sequestered per year by average age spruce trees are harvested by average trees needed to build a 30,000 sq ft house)
  • Targets:
    • minimally acceptable value: 704,550 kg of CO2 sequestered
    • desired / target value: 1,056,825 kg of CO2
  • Strategies:
    • By using mass timber, while controversial, carbon sequestration occurs.
    • I can use spruce timber which can be locally sourced in Copenhagen

Goal 2: Greenhouse Implementation for Thermal Energy

  • Measure:  Watts per square meter (intense calculations follow, used formulas like η = Input energy/ Useful output energy and this article, https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-relationship-between-watts-sq-meter-and-degrees-Celsius-If-radiative-forcing-increases-heat-of-earth-by-3-5-watts-sq-meter-how-does-this-become-1-5-C-increase-as-reported )
  • Targets:
    • minimally accepted value: approx. 0.0255 W/m squared thermal efficiency
    • desired / target value: approx. 0.0511 W/m squared thermal efficiency
  • Strategies:
    • Maximizing solar exposure through modeling software to ensure the proper building orientation
    • Using glazing materials with high solar transmittance and good insular qualities to keep heat in

Goal 3: Utilisation of Recycled Steel

  • Measure:  Amount of Recycled Steel used in kg/m3
  • Targets:
    • minimally acceptable value: 70% recycled steel used
    • desired / target value: 100% recycled steel
  • Strategies:
    • Recycling steel significantly reduces the environmental impact compared to producing steel from virgin raw materials.
    • It conserves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and minimizes the need for mining iron ore and other resources.
