Intended Users:

This tool could be used by any home builders or architects designing homes who want to get an idea of how roof pitch and home orientation changes the solar properties of the building. Additionally, the tool could help A-frame ski lodge designers achieve their sustainability goals.

Problem:

Sustainable homes are aided tremendously by solar heating and solar PV and this tool seeks to help maximize that.

Inputs:

The Dynamo will iterate through a range of roof pitches and building orientations. It will also have the geographical location of the building as an input.

Logic:

The code will run through the pitch and orientation options and determine the resulting solar properties of each of these candidate buildings. From these results, the architect will be able to see what the effects of different roof pitches and orientations are and weigh that with their aesthetic, snow load, attic space, etc. considerations.

Outputs:

The outputs will be average and peak insolation (to get an idea of heating and cooling concerns in temperate regions). These will be plotted against the range of roof pitches to determine an optimal compromise of pitch.
