Description
For this assignment, I was inspired to model a tubular frame similar to the one located at a hotel in Nice, France (see image). The structure has 5 rib elements, 57 panel elements, parabola defining its top geometry and is an impressive semi-covered structure with the the ability of providing partial shading from the sun (as apparent in the model) while enjoying non-instrusive sunshine. Some of the parametric abilities I have with this structure is changing the a, b and c values in the defining parabola of the quadratic form y = ax^2 + bx + c. This allows the ability to change its steepness, direction of concavity and its height from grade level.
A possible alteration I thought to make to this structure would be to add defining parabolas whether in the plane directions or z direction in order to create an interesting multi-parabola-defined structure. If in the z direction, this would disrupt the parallel panel character the structure currently has, however, would introduce a more dynamic structure. Overall enjoyed this exercise.
