Who Did You Interview?

  • Honorary Aunt/Mom's Friend

Demographics That Might Provide Helpful Context for Their Responses

  • Mid 30s
  • Grant Writer for the SB Maritime Museum
  • Semi-Rural/Small City

Key Findings from the Interview

  • When it comes to sustainability
    • What do they care most about?
      • She cares the most about the Ocean the most because that is what she is exposed to the most as she works for the Maritime Museum in charge of choosing the programs for the museum. She mentioned that there are a lot of movements for forestry, sustainible products, and endangered species but the ocean seems to be lacking in the sustainible aid it gets.
    • What are they doing now?
      • Right now, she makes efforts at home with recycling and limiting plastics use. But she said that she makes more of a difference with her job because she was able to declare the business a green business with the state of California. This means that for every event that the museum throws, there are all reusable plates, napkins, etc, as well as working to educate the people who come through the museum.
    • What would they like to be able to do?
      • She would like to be able to convert the decommissioned oil platforms in the Santa Barbara channel into educational facilities that in which students would learn about the ocean while staying overnight in the middle of the ocean. She reassured me that this has been done in other parts in the world successfully and that she thinks it would be very powerful to learn about things that harm the ocean while standing on a decommissioned oil rig.
  • Any reservations / concerns about sustainability?
    • There are no concerns, just concerns that we are not doing enough fast enough
