Hello everyone, in our team we are targeting communities affected by wildfires. Has anyone here had an experience with a wildfire or live in a wildfire risk area? If so, could you please briefly describe what you feel/felt?

I live in a wildfire risk area and have experienced many smoke days. In the worst wildfire years it was difficult to have to stay inside most of the day because of the very unhealthy air. I know many people with asthma and other health conditions particularly struggle with smokey air. Additionally, my family has talked about evacuation plans because we live in the hills where fire can spread quickly and it may take some time before firefighters can reach our neighborhood. It is concerning that wildfire season will be more likely and further exacerbated by rising temperatures.

I also live in an area where I have witnessed a few fires and smoke, and reports of houses burning down near my area are not uncommon. It teaches my family and I to be more cautious whenever we are doing something that has risk of fire. Although the area in which I live isn’t risky enough to the point where I have regular fear for wildfire, we do have to be careful with our actions. We are lucky enough to have a fire station less than two miles away from my home.

I do not live in a wildfire risk area but my friend does, ans she was describing to me her experience last summer when there was a heat wave in her country and started a few wild fires in her area. It is a mix of anxiety and constant vigilance. The fear of losing everything to a sudden blaze is always in the back of your mind. You have to learn to stay prepared—having a go-bag ready, monitoring alerts, and planning evacuation routes. The smell of smoke in the air, especially during dry seasons, can trigger a deep sense of unease. It’s a situation where you hope for the best but prepare for the worst, knowing that nature can be unpredictable and devastating.

I do not live in a wildfire risk area but other members of my family do. From what they tell me it is a lot of being more mindful of certain actions and activities that could cause a fire to break out. It is an event people are constantly preparing for usually with pre-packed emergency bags and practicing exit routes.
