This area is important/interesting to me because….my experience transporting around college and high school campuses
When I arrived on campus at Stanford I noticed all of the idle bikes on the bike racks and I felt bad for myself because I didn’t have access to one. I was dreaming about taking one of the bikes and making my commute way easier from class to class. This thought was disregarded until my Sustainability Design Class where we talked about potential ideas for sustainability. My idea is for a way students can make a profit off of their bikes when not in use and for others to have a cheap way to get across campus without having to buy a bike.
The service I am thinking of designing is an app that lets you know the location and cost of available bikes across campus. The app will let the rider know what times they can use the bike, so the owner is not inconvenienced, and costs for damages and lost bikes. This service will let the owners of the bike dictate the price per mile and other special instructions. The location of the bike will only be shared when the owner sets it to available. The idea is to make commute across school campuses easier and profitable.
