I’m a veteran coterm student here at Stanford. I was a helicopter mechanic for cobra and huey helicopters in the Marine Corps, and I’ve deployed overseas. After the military, I jumped straight into school. Since then, I finished my bachelors in biomechanical engineering, and I’m working on my masters in mechanical engineering. I’m a big DIY person, so I’m trying to take courses like this for my own purposes down the road. I’m planning to build part or all of my own house one day, so I’m filling my electives with courses that will help me out. If I can build/design something myself and save money in the process, I will go that route. Last summer, I designed and built my own lofted bed to increase space, and I built a ramp for my dog to get in the bed—he’s a prince and deserves everything. This is my first class in CEE, so I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing w.r.t. sustainable design, but I figured this would be a fun introduction. Outside of school and projects, Loki (floof) and I travel a lot to new places for fun, or to visit friends and family. We like hiking and taking the roads we haven’t traveled yet. Later this summer, we are doing a trip to Colorado and Utah, so we are really looking forward to that! Career-wise, the goal is to be “the opposite of a PhD,” in that I intend to be a jack of all trades vs. an expert in a specific area. I’m aiming to work for Sandia or the national laboratories for that reason (and some others). I just want job & retirement security and the opportunity to do some really cool stuff along the way 😊
