What sort of complexities are introduced when you construct a building complex in phases?
- What happens at the interfaces between the buildings as the phases advance?
- How can you plan and prepare for these complexities as your create your initial building model?
When phases are introduced, it adds an element of time. This can be nice, as it can guide people with the expected timelines and allow workers to start constructing one part and still allowing time to work on the next segment. However, as we start to introduce these complexities, we are more likely to make mistakes and make edits that will modify our previous building plans. For this reason, it is important to make sure that you are always making edits in the correct phase and labeling them accordingly.
What are the principal advantages of using a single building information model of the existing conditions as the foundation for modeling several proposed design alternatives for a portion of the building?
- Why not create a separate model for each of the design alternatives?
This feature allows you to use the existing infrastructure as a template that you can modify. It is easier to do this, as you can just click which few elements you want to change as opposed to having to make copies of many individual elements to make the changes.
