Module 3 - Project Goals Targets & Strategies
The Exhibition Space will be put nearby the Dish area near our campus. Thus, we should follow CA-specified standards, and I wish to design a building that is compatible with the nearby environment (higher altitude and some greens).
Goal 1: Use less materials, and more sustainable materials
- Measure: LEED credits
- Targets:
- At least 5 points in the Materials and Resources (MR) category
- Strategies:
- Minimize use of concrete
- Use recycled metal, glass, and wood. A list of recommended products that help meet CALGreen and LEED certifications are listed here https://calrecycle.ca.gov/condemo/products/.
Goal 2: Low Site Energy
- Measure: Energy Use Intensity (EUI)
- Targets:
- At least 50% reduction in EUI comparing to ASHRAE Standard 90.1
- Meet Architecture 2030
- Strategies:
- Low-E glasses for natural light penetration and heat prevention
- Natural ventilation throughout the building
- Solar roof / green roof
- Use smart sensors and actuators for building automation
Goal 3: Encourage well-being / healthy behaviors
- Measure: LEED credits and visual assessment
- Targets:
- At least 15 points out of 20 in the Location and Transport (LT) category.
- Promote mental health by connecting people and the nature
- Strategies:
- Design more bicycle storage space and set up a shuttle stop to satisfy standards for Bicycle Facilities, and Access to Quality Transit criteria.
- Setting up the center of the building as a gathering place for people to connect with each other and enjoy the nature at the same time.
- Open stairwells to encourage walking.
