Acou-Panels

As return to offices is becoming more prominent, companies are looking to enhance the spaces to make it more inviting for employees’ return to work. This includes refreshing of the interior spaces as part of huge Tenant Improvement (TI) work. Companies are now hiring architects and interior designers to help them with these projects.

The new trends for the workplace of the future include open offices, huddle rooms, and collaboration areas. Meaning there’s minimal wall separation in these offices allowing for sound to travel easily from space to space. This often becomes a nuisance for the employees who are looking for quiet and heads-down spaces to focus on their work. In comes Acou-Panels. These panels become very critical in absorbing noises to minimize sound travel between the assigned collaborative spaces, that are inherently louder, to the open office desk areas - the quieter spaces.

These panels are designed to be either wall mounted or ceiling mounted after their original design has been completed through the configurator. Since the geometry will be either CNC’d (undulating solid panel) or laser cut (waffle) the material will be determined by the designer; whether it’s insulation foams or feltz material or others.

Intended users

The intended users of this tool will be either architects or interior designers designing residential or workplace projects. Using the configurator they will be able to design these undulating acoustic panels that they can then send to a fabrication center with a CNC machine that can cut and prepare the panels for installation.

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

We are solving for owner companies that are trying entice their employees to return to the offices. Acoustic panels are considered ornamental pieces in workplace TIs and architects/interior designers take advantage of this opportunity to develop patterns or sculptural panels that can double as functional and formally aesthetic.

Inputs

Length of Panel

Width of Panel

Wave pattern

Peak depth of Wave

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

We will be using Nurbs to create a smooth undulating surface with a depth and dimensions that can be manipulated by the designers. The Nurbs will be created from a grid input.

Outputs

Dimensioned Acou-Panel that can then be sent to fabricators to be cut and/or milled to form.
