Can you guarantee that the completed building will match the performance predicted by the analysis in its day-to-day operations?

  • You definitely cannot expect the actual performance to match the prediction. There are so many different components that come into play in day-to-day life that will impact the building’s performance. For example, people are unpredictable, and people are the building’s users. Weather and climate will also impact the building’s performance in a fairly unpredictable manner.

When choosing settings for each of the building performance factors, should you always choose the setting that gives the absolute lowest predicted energy use?

Sometimes it does not make sense to choose the lowest energy use setting. One reason is that it works counter to the building’s design aesthetic. Another reason is the capital costs of the materials needed for this energy setting.

4D simulations are often used to show the construction sequence for an entire project, but shorter simulations that focus on a specific period of time are also useful.

Planning week-to-week is more conducive to accurate scheduling because if one week’s project takes longer than anticipated, the week schedules can be shifted down instead of an edit of one master project timeline. Week to week also helps with staffing to ensure there are enough workers to complete a project but not too many where it becomes a waste of time.
