What Does Sustainability Mean to You?

In my understanding, sustainability and promoting a sustainable built environment involve designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings and infrastructure in a way that reduces their negative impact on the environment and promotes the well-being of the people who use them. One key aspect of a sustainable built environment is energy efficiency. This can include using renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power, and incorporating energy-efficient systems, such as LED lighting and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems. Another important aspect is the use of sustainable materials. This includes using materials that are locally sourced, have a low environmental impact, and can be easily recycled or repurposed.

Atlassian’s new headquarters

This ongoing project can be the best of the bests project for me. This is a 40-story building with a mass timber frame, and a grass and steel exoskeleton façade. The mass timber frame is crucial to reduce CO2 emission relating to building materials. In addition, the façade enables the users to reduce operational energy cost by capturing sunlight for lighting and warming inside. Moreover, it is opened and encourages the wind to circulate through the building, thereby the cost of air circulation system can be reduced.
