Which types of structural framing systems and materials are most commonly used in the US for residences? For office buildings?

In the U.S., houses often use wood because it's affordable, while offices prefer strong steel frames. Both homes and offices might use concrete for durability. Newer methods like SIPs are getting popular for energy efficiency. Mixing materials is common, and more buildings aim for eco-friendly options.

How do you think design coordination was done before we started using digital models?

Before digital models, design coordination involved hand-drawn plans and physical models. Teams would meet to discuss the project, make manual changes, and communicate through paper documentation. It was a slower process compared to today's digital tools, like CAD and BIM, which make coordination faster and more efficient.

What strategies can design teams use to find and avoid clashes prior to the start of construction?

Design teams can take several straightforward steps to find and avoid clashes before construction begins. Using 3D modeling tools like Building Information Modeling (BIM) allows teams to create a comprehensive digital representation of the project, making it easier to spot potential conflicts. Regular coordination meetings and open communication channels help team members discuss plans and address concerns early on. Clash detection tools and reports from BIM software provide a systematic way to identify and prioritize clashes.
