Module 8 - Make Your Pitch

For Module 8, I would like to explore my M7 further by creating more specific outputs and adding more geometry customization options for the user.

Intended users

This tool is meant for architects, engineers and developers who like to brainstorm various design options for short or tall buildings. It may also be used by students who are interested in understanding more about how building form impacts sustainability concerns.

Need you’re trying to provide a solution or support for

This tool will support the iteration process in building design and it can also help stakeholders make better decisions early on to assist them in achieving more “sustainability points” in the long run.

Inputs

Inputs will be similar to M7, where width, length, height, and rotation. In order to make it more customizable I will create inputs for the expected use of the building (commercial, manufacturing, residential) and this would reflect changes in the energy intensity per square foot. Lastly, I will create an input for construction cost customization so that local project costs can be customized.

Underlying logic of the model you’ll implement

The logic will be a series of multiplication and addition to determine how:

roof area vs costs,

floor area vs costs,

roof area vs PV, etc.

Outputs

The outputs will be the unique construction costs, PV output, and expected energy intensity (dependent on the use) for the indoor areas.
