Module 10 - Plumbing Systems
  • Plumbing System Elements and Systems

The plumbing elements are broken into 3 distinct zones. One zone is on Level 2 which connects to a men’s restroom, women’s restroom, and office restroom. The other two zones are on Level 1 and each is connected to a singular restroom (men’s or women’s). Each restroom includes water closets (toilets) and lavatories (sinks). The men’s restroom on Level 2 also includes urinals. I implemented a greywater subsystem for the restrooms to be more sustainable. Waste water from the sinks is filtered and reused for the toilets and urinals. Each zone has a domestic cold water (blue), domestic hot water (red), sanitary (green), greywater collection (purple), and greywater supply (turquoise) subsystem. The sanitary and greywater collection piping is sloped at 1/4” / 12”. I efficiently modeled the second restroom on Level 1 using the mirror tool on the first restroom on Level 1. Below are 3D and plan views of the plumbing zones

  • any special plumbing system challenges that you encountered and how you overcame them

The major challenge I faced while creating the overall plumbing system was ensuring none of the trunk or branch pieces from different subsystems overlap. I achieved this by setting specific branch heights away from each other. I utilized section views to accurately place piping components. I also took extra care on components like the sinks to ensure their greywater collection piping stays tight to the walls.
