Module 10 - Plumbing Systems

1. Plumbing system elements

In my building model, there are two side-by-side bathrooms each floor. The men’s bathroom has 4 toilets, 2 lavatories, and 1 urinal. The women’s bathroom has 5 toilets, and 3 lavatories. I only modeled the first two floors due to significant difficulty going upstairs. The rooms are placed differently and there are a lot of routing to do.

  1. Piping elements

There are hot water, cold water, and sanitary pipes. All pipes are copper, and both hot and cold water pipes are 1’’. The sanitary pipes are 4’’.

  1. Special challenges

I started with the architectural components, during which I was ignorant in retrospect. As I was laying out the pipes, I found out that mirroring the layout would make the process significantly easier, but it was too late… The silver lining is that I got to get more familiarized with the pipe system.

Copy and paste does not work well with my building because the bathroom positions shift on each level. So as you can see, between the first and second floor, I had to reroute the pipes. It is particularly hard to get the section views I wanted and I had to create around 10 at one point. But it seems like it all worked out and all fixtures are connected to the main pipes!
