Description

For Module 5, I designed an extension of the engineering building to create an enclosed courtyard and engineering quad. I believe this design is similar to the quads at Stanford, and allows the campus students to feel enclosed in a tight-knit community when attending classes. I decided to leverage the bridges already created to connect the buildings and allow bikers or walkers to pass under the walkway. Through the circular design, I hoped to create a structure that was modern and allowed for innovative thought. Since the space is for collaboration, the design the building with an open floor plan and balcony that overlooks the main lounge area and inner courtyard. I used curtain walls to open the building to the rest of the quad and give students a beautiful view of the engineering building. The space additionally includes two bathrooms with multiple stalls and sinks, a large maker spaces with tables, desks, and counter tops, study group rooms of multiple sizes, a cafeteria, kitchen, storage area, elevators, and gallery.
