This design is created inspired by the Canton Tower. It is a twisted round shape as shown in the beautiful picture below.

To create my design, firstly, a mass family called twisting rounded triangular mass was loaded in Revit. To create a customized shape of my own building, some formula were set for the dimensions of the tower. The mid height is set to be top height/1.618, which is the golden section ratio. (Of course right now the building doesn’t look structurally viable, but more adjustments can be made;) After the adjusting, other parameters are now dependant on the value of top height, base rotation, and base radius. Floors are created by the Mass Floor tool in Revit after creating floor level grids.

This figure shows the a comparison of the building section before and after the adjustment.

For the testing scenarios, we are varying two parameters: Top Height and Base Rotation. 6 sets of values for each parameters were created. The varying values with the building mass are then input into a custome node to obtain the Gross Volume and Gross Surface Area. The result was then output and exported to Excel.

Additional steps can be taken to find the min and max for the output, as well as the corresponding test case. The figure below shows the dynamo script for creating this experiment. The result of the 6 sets of testing output by Excel was uploaded in the BIM360 folder.
