Practice Exercise: Plumbing Systems

The plumbing fixtures can be auto connected into the pipes. The main riser pipes and branch pipes are mirrored from the south restrooms to the north restrooms. The disadvantage of using the mirrored piping layout for the north restrooms is that the hot water supply line is much longer than it is in the south restrooms. The following pictures show the Revit model views and the merged views of the architectural, structural, and plumbing models from Autodesk Cloud.

Challenges: Overall, this exercise went smoothly. It was easy to connect the plumbing fixtures into the pipes using the auto-connect tool. One challenge I encountered for this exercise is that when I copied the fixtures and pipes to a new level, there would be disconnections between the elements; I had to manually delete the connection joints, connect the pipe segments into a whole pipe, and then to reconnect the fixtures to the pipes. Everything else went okay, and the general procedure for this exercise was very easy.

For my project, I might hide the pipes which are underneath the lavatories into the wall instead of exposing them outside.
